BENEFIT APPLICATIONS
DISASTER-RELATED EMERGENCY RENTAL ASSISTANCE
The NC legislature has allocated Rental Assistance funding for NC residents in disaster-impacted counties who have suffered a housing crisis due to Hurricane Helene. Eligible households will receive a one-time payment of $856, which is equal to the cost of monthly housing for a two bedroom unit in Yancey County, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) local area Fair Market Rent (FMR).
Payments will be made directly to the recipient’s landlord via check.
Applicants must reside in one of the declared disaster counties, either temporarily or permanently, at the time of the disaster and currently.
The application can be accessed with the link below. Paper copies are available at Yancey DSS in the cabinets near the front entrance, and can be submitted to DSS by placing it in the green drop box, located in the DSS parking lot.
